Wedding Dresses

We have partnered with Laura, the owner of Lily Saratoga, to give expert advice when it comes to purchasing wedding dresses! Here is what she has to say!!

1. Keep. An. Open Mind.
We recently asked our past brides to give the upcoming 2023 & 2024 brides some shopping tips.  The #1 piece of advice we heard over and over again was “to keep an open mind”.  A few brides wrote: “Don’t be discouraged if what you thought you wanted isn’t the one!” and another wrote “Try on some dresses you wouldn’t normally go for!”

2. Do keep your venue & season in mind when selecting your gown
While it may have been your dream to wear a big sparkly ballgown for your wedding, it’s not going to be the most practical choice if you are getting married on a beach.  We always tell our brides that you are in your dress for most of the day, so you need to feel comfortable and confident.

3. Don’t choose your dress for someone else
Listen to your internal voice and always follow your gut!  This is your wedding gown, and your wedding day, so you need to wear what you absolutely love!  We learned through covid that appointments are actually much better when there are fewer guests (and fewer opinions for the bride to weigh)

4. Do choose a dress that you feel comfortable in
Some of the old/traditional rules regarding specific styles for specific body types have gone by the wayside.  More and more we are seeing brides step outside of those rules and going with what makes them feel comfortable.  If you are a plus-size bride who loves her curves and wants a fitted dress, GO FOR IT!  If you are petite and want to feel like a real-life princess, we will help you find the perfect ballgown to accentuate and work with your frame.

5. Don’t judge a dress on it’s hanger
This goes back to “keep an open mind”.  An experienced bridal consultant will know what to pull for you based on your vision, likes/dislikes and body shape.  Very often we have brides who don’t like what they see on the hanger but fall in love when it’s on their body!
