Colgate University Wedding Weekend – Oie and George

BDP_2266.jpg

We always love weddings at Colgate, and Oie and George swung for the fences with their celebration which lasted the entire weekend long. Having met in college it was only fitting for these two to married on campus, and this three-day wedding weekend is one that no one is sure to forget.

Working with Oie and George was a blast for me, as our Destination Upstate packages are the ones I have the most fun with (planning multi-day weddings is my jam!). They chose a three-day event with a welcome party for all guests on Friday, the wedding ceremony and reception on Saturday, and a farewell brunch for all on Sunday.

Guests started arriving in Hamilton on Thursday, which meant many were able to kick off the weekend by participating in the couple’s private golf event. After an afternoon ceremony rehearsal the parents and bridal party were able to join their 200 guests for a BBQ themed welcome party. We set up a tent on campus on Whitnall Field where everyone enjoyed a round of toasts and speeches, friendly competition over some lawn games, and yummy food and drinks. At the end of the night the Colgate Cruisers rolled in to return all guests to their hotels and rentals so everyone could rest up for day two.

Saturday was an absolutely beautiful day, and the guys spent the afternoon at George’s fraternity while the girls got ready at Colgate’s Hockey House. The ceremony took place on the upper lawn of Merrill House with a gorgeous view looking over Willow Path. When the ceremony ended guests enjoyed cocktails in front of Merrill House while the bridal party went off for photos. The reception tent was stunning with a full wood floor underfoot and a gorgeous sailcloth tent overhead. The best part about having a tent with flooring, besides not getting heels caught in the grass, is that there is no dedicated dance floor so you can stretch your legs and get everyone up with no space restrictions. And did they all get up! With a full live band and a bride and groom who stepped in front of the microphones as special guest singers, the party started early and it never slowed down! The only time I saw a slight break in the dancing was when the delivery of Slices came in during the last hour of the party (anyone who knows Colgate knows about Slices). As the reception wrapped up the Colgate Cruisers were back, but this time it was to take everyone to the afterparty at The Jug. But before the took off all of Oie and George’s guests gathered on the dance floor for the final song which they all sang together – New York, New York.

By Sunday morning everyone was ready to enjoy a relaxed brunch at the Colgate Inn, get one last chance to hug each other and congratulate the newlyweds, and head on back home. It was so nice to see the smiles on everyone’s faces and hear all of the remarks at how amazing the whole weekend was. 200 people came to Hamilton, NY from all across the country, and they left as a special group of new friends.

Oie and George, thank you so very much for finding me and bringing me into your wedding weekend. You are amazing people and I am so excited for what the future has in store for you. If your life mirrors the spirit and energy of your wedding weekend you guys have nothing but bright things ahead!

xoxo,

Shannon
