One of the most asked questions to us is how much our couples should tip their wedding vendors. While there are opinions in every direction, we like to share what we see done at weddings year after year. Here are some common tidbits we can pass along…

Don’t feel like you have to tip everyone – 

This might be a surprise but we see that the vendors who spend the entire day with our couples are the ones who are often most included in the tip pool.  This would include photographer, videographer, DJ/band, hair and makeup, and possibly your wedding day coordinator (awkward!  lol).  

While the tip amount is usually a whole dollar amount ($200 for your photographer, for example), we do see percentages for hair and makeup and for transportation.  

Hair Stylists and Makeup Artists– both of these services are generally tipped 15-20% of their total fee.

Transportation– this is a service that also typically gets tipped at 15% of the total fee, but make sure it’s not already totaled and added into your contract.

Also don’t worry about distributing your tips during your reception when you have a LOT of other fun things to be doing at that time. Fill and seal your tip envelopes ahead of time, write the vendor’s name on the outside, and hand those envelopes to your coordinator when they arrive on wedding morning so you don’t have to worry about the rest.
