With so many 2020 couples navigating the ever changing landscape of wedding planning it is not uncommon for us to field questions from our couples on what constitutes elopement, what exactly is a microwedding, and what is right for them?
To start, we hold the definition of an elopement to mean a marriage ceremony of just the wedding couple with no bridal party or guests, while a microwedding is a wedding ceremony (and perhaps some light refreshments before and/or after) contained to a max of 30 guests or so.
If you are considering altering your 2020 wedding plans which path may be right for you?
With an elopement, you will get the most intimate and personal ceremony experience ever. With no distractions from bridal party or parents or guests or vendors, you will experience a stripped down and ‘raw’ matrimony that many others will never understand but will always be jealous of. Pros are feeling the true beauty of that heart to heart experience. Cons are the obvious absence of your friends and family.
For a microwedding, you can expand upon the concept of an elopement and add in the elements of of our normal wedding social experiences (mom helping you into your dress, dad helping you down the aisle, MOH and BM saying some words to toast you, etc). Instead of limiting your celebration to just the two of you, you can open it up to the VIPs in your life under the current guidelines of the social distancing measures in your area. Pros for this option are to feel the love of others around you on your most important day, and to get as close to a “normal” wedding celebration as you can at this time. Cons are potentially exposing your guests to a complicated viral situation, having a large number of your guests opt out of attending because of their fear of exposure, or souring the picture in your mind of your perfect wedding day – sans covid.
Whichever direction you want to go – or if you find yourself unsure of which path is right for you – we are here to help you navigate this journey. Give us a shout. We look forward to helping you on this journey!
