I love planning large weddings but the opportunities I get to focus on a celebration just for two are really special projects for me. I was so honored when Julie reached out to me to help her plan an elopement with her best friend Steve. They had rented a vacation house on Otsego Lake just outside Cooperstown and we had one month to get all of the details arranged. No on in their families even knew they were planning to do this which made the whole thing feel so much more exciting.
I was able to secure all of the vendors that are essential for a perfect elopement – hair and makeup, officiant, florist, photographer, and a lovely dinner location for them to continue their celebration after we were gone. Arriving at the rental house that morning was a surreal feeling as there were only our core group there, and there was no buzzing of family members and bridal party all trying to get ready at once. The calmness of the space felt heartwarming, as did the moment that Julie and Steve helped each other get dressed. When they felt ready we all walked down to the shores of the lake where I got to hold the bride’s bouquet and my assistant Kristina recorded their vows on her phone. After an absolutely beautiful ceremony Kristina and I served as witnesses to their union and we signed their marriage license to make it all official. Then we were off for photos at the rental property as well as in quintessential photo locations in and around Cooperstown. Then after our services were done Julie and Steve headed off for a romantic dinner for two at the Otesaga Resort.
I realize I am writing more on this wedding post than I do in most of my others, but the reason for that is that I was so moved by these two people and the deep and true love that they have for each other. Their wedding day was pure magic, as if there was both electricity and a subtle stillness in the air all day. I absolutely love working with couples who choose to elope, and this couple and their elopement will always remain a very special part of this wedding planner’s heart.
Thank you Julie for hearing my episode on the Now You’re Engaged Podcast and inquiring about my availability that fateful day! I wish you and Steve all the best that this world has to offer you!
xoxo,
Shannon
